Genetic variationamongdifferentmorphotypesofthemale freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man)

The genetic differences between the blue clawmale(BC),orange clawmale(OC)andsmallmale(SM)morphotypes of male fresh water prawns were assessedu singmi crosatellite DNA markers.Thirtyindi-viduals from eachof the three groups of male prawns were collected from a hatchery rearing systemin Port Dickson,NegeriSembilan,Malaysia.Significant differences in growth were observed between the three groups.The total numbers of alleles per locusin the BC,OC and SM groups were found to be 23,27 and21,respectively from all loci.The average observed heterozygosities(Ho) rangedfrom0.48to
0.56 .Themean FIS of −0.018 indicated an excess of heterozygosity.The pair-wise comparisonsandthe FST values revealed significant genetic differentiationa cross the groups. The greatest genetic distancewasobserved between the BC and SM groups and lowe stone was between the BC and the OC groups
