Power exchange among microgrids using modular-isolated bidirectional DC–DC converter
Abstract
This paper investigates the operation of a DC microgrid which is connected to a DC distribution network using a modular-isolated bidirectional DC–DC converter. The bidirectional power flowcapability of the proposed modular converter provides the possibility of power exchange between DC microgrid, and DC distribution network contains some microgids. The extendable configuration of the
proposed modular-isolated bidirectional DC–DC converter makes it suitable for high-power applications. Using the modular DC–DC converter, an electric isolation is provided between the microgrid and distribution network. A power management strategy should be applied to ensure the predetermined power exchange between DC microgrid and DC network even in DC network islanding mode. An exchange of surplus power among the microgrids is considered in the power management strategy. The advantages of the modular
converter in the DC microgrid power management facilitation are presented. Operation principles of the modular converter are experimentally verified, and then, the operation of the PV-based microgrid is discussed in different modes using the software simulations.
